WASHINGTON, D.C. – A new national survey released by Medicare Advantage Majority (MAM) reveals that caregivers — the family members, friends, and neighbors who help seniors navigate their health care — are deeply invested in protecting Medicare Advantage and prepared to hold elected officials accountable at the ballot box.
Conducted in partnership with The Tarrance Group, the survey finds that caregivers are highly aware of, and satisfied with, the Medicare Advantage plans their loved ones are enrolled in, and that any cuts to the program would have direct financial and personal consequences for them as well as the seniors they support.
“While Medicare Advantage impacts the 35 million Americans enrolled in the program, it also affects the friends, family members, and communities helping care for them,” said Taylor Keeney, spokesperson for Medicare Advantage Majority. “Caregivers are on the front lines every day helping seniors get to appointments, manage their medications, and get care at home. They know firsthand how much Medicare Advantage matters. With the midterms ahead, they are watching closely to see whether Congress will protect it, and accountability in November for those who don’t.”
The MAM caregiver survey fielded April 29 – May 11, 2026, polled n=1,000 caregivers of seniors nationwide who are enrolled in Medicare Advantage. Topline findings from respondents include:
- Caregivers recognize the value of Medicare Advantage: More than four in five caregivers (83%) are aware of the benefits and features offered through Medicare Advantage plans, and nearly eight in ten (79%) are satisfied with the Medicare Advantage plan their loved one is enrolled in.
- Caregivers fear cuts would increase costs and reduce access to care: Most caregivers are concerned that Medicare Advantage cuts would result in higher out-of-pocket costs (78%) and reduced access to in-home care services (74%) for seniors.
- Families would face significant financial strain: If Medicare Advantage plans become less stable and costs increase, 71% of caregivers say they would need to help cover additional expenses themselves. Among those caregivers, 81% would likely cut back on their own spending, 77% would tap into savings or retirement funds, and 74% would take on additional debt.
- Medicare Advantage helps caregivers manage their responsibilities: Nearly two-thirds of caregivers (64%) say Medicare Advantage makes their caregiving responsibilities easier to manage than traditional Medicare. This sentiment is even stronger among caregivers who are also raising children, with 71% saying Medicare Advantage makes balancing caregiving and parenting responsibilities easier.
- Caregivers would recommend Medicare Advantage to others: Nearly three-quarters of caregivers (74%) say they would be likely to recommend a Medicare Advantage plan to another senior.
- Caregivers are ready to take action: An overwhelming 95% of caregivers say they would be willing to take some form of action to help protect Medicare Advantage funding for seniors.
“Conventional wisdom suggests Medicare Advantage is primarily a program impacting seniors. This survey confirms that this issue impacts their caregivers as well, and how those caregivers will vote. They are a bipartisan, motivated group of voters, and the vast majority say a CMS decision in October that weakens coverage or raises costs will directly shape how they vote in November.” — BJ Martino, President and CEO of The Tarrance Group.
Medicare Advantage currently provides coverage to more than 35 million seniors and people with disabilities nationwide — more than half of all Medicare beneficiaries. Unlike traditional Medicare, MA offers integrated, coordinated care along with additional benefits such as dental, vision, hearing, transportation, and in-home services that help seniors remain healthy and independent.
MAM’s latest survey reinforces previous research that both seniors and caregivers overwhelmingly value Medicare Advantage and support policies that protect the program’s affordability, benefits, and access to care.
