THE RECORD
Rep. Greg Murphy has represented North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District since 2019. Before coming to Congress, he was a practicing urologist. He now sits on the committee in the U.S. House that oversees many policies related to Medicare Advantage. Murphy says he wants to hold insurance companies accountable — but the bills he has supported would cut the funding for benefits Medicare Advantage members count on, like dental, vision and hearing coverage.

On June 8, Murphy published an op-ed stating that Medicare Advantage has increasingly failed to meet seniors' expectations — using that argument to call for Congress to restructure how the program is funded and run, which could mean fewer benefits for current enrollees.
Murphy has repeatedly misrepresented the program and ignored the benefits it provides beneficiaries — framing that he uses to justify legislation that would cut the payments Medicare Advantage plans use to fund the benefits and care coordination that seniors depend on.
