Capito has put her influence to work for seniors more than once — speaking out when the program came under threat, organizing colleagues across party lines to defend it, and backing legislation that protects the benefits and access that Medicare Advantage members depend on.

Merkley has called the program “fraud, waste and abuse” and has worked to cut the payments that fund the benefits Medicare Advantage offers beyond what traditional Medicare covers — benefits like dental, vision, hearing care and help coordinating treatment across doctors.
